Blizzard Updates Their Match Making Algorithm

Citing increased player feedback of veteran players being matched with and against new players, Blizzard makes another update to it's matchmaking system

Blizzard gets a lot of flak over their matchmaking systems. A couple minutes in the default game lobby is all it takes to familiarize your self with the constant barrage of player complaints about player being paired together despite large skill discrepancys. In their previous post on matchmaking, Blizzard addressed a large number of these concerns and just today they, released another statement regarding more improvements.

Essentially, the total number of Quick Match games a player has ever played will now be used to determine a quality team pairing. That means, a player who has only played 50 quick matches are more likely to be paired with players around that same number. This is a clear step in the right direction, as number of games played is a reliable factor to determine some ones familiarity and skill at the game.

At a minimum it will reduce the frustration of veteran players being paired with total beginners.
